The
primary principle of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, or HBOT, is tissue
oxygenation. Oxygen has therapeutic value, and its healing
properties are enhanced for certain medical conditions when applied
under pressure.
HBOT is the
application of pure, medical grade oxygen at pressures greater than
1 atmosphere (14.7 psia, at sea level). Originally, the increased
pressure was found to be of value in the treatment of decompression
sickness and air embolism with the use of hyperbaric air (a mix of
oxygen and nitrogen, as found in the earth's atmosphere) and
hyperbaric oxygen - 100% oxygen. It has also been found to be
extremely therapeutic in the treatment of conditions such as Carbon
monoxide (CO) poisoning, thermal burns, anemia, radiation injury,
skin grafts and problem wounds that aren't healing properly.
Increasingly, physicians are turning to it in the treatment of
conditions such as stroke, Lyme disease, ALS, migraines and other
ailments.

The
therapeutic principle behind the success of HBOT is in an increased
infusion of oxygen into the body's tissues, primarily due to the
increased pressure, which can be
up to
3 atmospheres (~30 psig) in Mt. Diablo Hyperbaric's Sechrist hyperbaric chamber. While hemoglobin is
oxygen-saturated at atmospheric pressure, oxygen transport in blood
plasma is dramatically increased in hyperbaric conditions. That
results in sharply higher oxygen delivery to the tissues, which
accelerates healing. |
Treatment time
ranges from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the condition being
treated.

A Personal Story: "HBOT
and My Father"
Dr. Toth speaks from personal experience in saying that Hyperbaric
Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a highly effective medical tool. HBOT has
made a significant difference in his own father's health.
"Over the past
several years my father, John P. Toth, M.D., had a series of
strokes, many of which were helped by Chelation Therapy. But in one
episode in 2005, the chelation did not clear all of his symptoms and
he underwent ten hyperbaric treatments which proved miraculous. The
problem, however, was that my father had to be driven to Mountain
View, CA and back for each treatment -- a 3 hour round trip. Should
he ever require this life saving therapy again, the distance could
quickly become a problem. Consequently, I decided to invest in a
Hyperbaric chamber at my office in Concord."

longer do East Bay patients requiring HBOT need to drive
long distances to receive this life-saving therapy — it
is available at Mt. Diablo Hyperbaric, 2270 Bacon
Street, Concord, CA.
As Mt.
Diablo Hyperbaric sets the standard for medical
excellence, it is also the least
expensive hyperbaric treatment in the San Francisco East
Bay area. |
